John Block acquittal bid fails

accreditation

Acquittal applications by the Trifecta Group of companies and three senior Northern Cape ANC officials have been dismissed by the Northern Cape High Court in Kimberley.

Judge Mathebe Phatshoane said she was satisfied there was enough evidence on which a court, acting carefully, might reasonably convict the accused.

The accused include Trifecta director Christo Scholtz and Northern Cape ANC heavyweights John Block, Alvin Botes and Yolanda Botha.

They face charges of corruption, fraud and money laundering.

The National Prosecuting Authority alleges the Trifecta Group entered into a number of lease agreements with the Northern Cape Department of Social Development in which rentals, or rental space, were grossly inflated.

The accused have all pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them or their companies.

The matter was postponed for the trial to resume on May 22 2014.
