Khumalo the biggest casualty as Igesund names squad to face CAR

Bafana Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo was the biggest casualty from the team that will play Central African Republic in a World Cup qualifier in Cape Town next week.

“Bongani has not been playing at his club, hence he’s been dropped,” Igesund said.

Itumeleng Khune will wear the captain’s armband instead.

Igesund made five changes from the team that played in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Others who were not picked are Katlego Mphela, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Siboniso Gaxa and Thulani Serero.

Igesund said Serero’s exclusion was due to his inability to give more to the team because he was still recovering from injury.

Igesund said he had opted for an offensive team as this was a must-win match. He said he was expecting a difficult game as CAR was very physical and uncompromising.
