Last call for semifinal tickets

Soccer fans have one last opportunity to buy tickets for the

semifinals of the 2010 World Cup, Fifa said today.

Spokesperson Nicolas Maingot said 1 600 category one tickets would

go on sale for each of the semifinals to be played today and tomorrow.

Tonight’s semifinal clash between the Netherlands and Uruguay will

be played at Cape Town’s Greenpoint Stadium while tomorrow’s match between

Germany and Spain takes place in Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Maingot said the television audience in Germany for that country’s

match against Argentina over the weekend lured 27.7 million viewers, translating

to a third of the German population fixed on their television screens watching

their team take on the South American side.

Local Organising Committee (LOC) spokesperson Jermaine Craig said

the last week of the tournament was key to the success of the entire World

Cup.

The LOC was “very focused” on delivering the final four matches

without a glitch.
