Malema: Ramaphosa is worse than Zuma

Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema said Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa would be a worse leader for the ANC than President Jacob Zuma.

“The ANC will not change. If they move from Zuma to Cyril Ramaphosa, do you think they will adopt the Freedom Charter?

“Cyril is worse than Zuma,” he said at a media briefing on the sidelines of his party’s conference at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein this afternoon.

“Cyril is a criminal of notes... all he thinks about is making money,” he said.

Malema said Ramaphosa even told corporates during the Codesa negotiations about South Africa’s political transition that they should not invest in South Africa under the apartheid government.

He said even while he was busy negotiating, Ramaphosa thought about business.

“When you send Cyril to Lesotho, in the back of his mind is diamonds,” said Malema.

He said Ramaphosa would be thinking about making money with coal now that he is tasked with sorting out Eskom.

Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said: “We will not dignify such bluster with a response.”

Malema said any other potential presidents for the ANC would keep the party on the same economic path as it currently is.

He said Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba, ANC treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize, ANC chairperson and National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete were potential ANC presidents but “they’re no good”.

He also mentioned Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula, “who doesn’t know if he is coming or going”.

Malema used to be close to Mbalula, a former ANC Youth League leader who mentored him, but Malema told City Press recently that they were not friends any longer.
