Man arrested for driving 216km/h

A 25-year-old man was arrested for speeding on the N4 highway outside Bronkhorstspruit yesterday evening, Gauteng police said.

Spokeswoman AB Nxumalo said the man was arrested just after 10pm for driving at an average speed of 216km/h in a 120km/h zone.

“The man claimed that his mother was sick and was on his way to assist her. This could not been confirmed by the members.”

She said he was taken to the Bronkhorstspruit police station and charged with reckless and/or negligent driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit of 120km/h.

“The man will be released on R1 500 bail and will appear in the Bronkhorstpruit Magistrate’s Court Tuesday April 2.”
