A man who allegedly shot and killed a young Alberton father during a road rage incident has been charged with murder.
An initial charge of manslaughter against Michael Sinequan (56) was changed to murder yesterday when he appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court, Beeld newspaper reported today.
On June 9 last year, Sinequan allegedly fired two shots with his .357 magnum revolver at Owein Lombard, killing the electrical contractor.
During his bail application last year, Sinequan, a pensioner from Brackendowns, claimed Lombard assaulted him and he fired his gun in self defence and sped away, the newspaper reported.
The incident happened on Michelle Avenue in Alberton, Ekurhuleni, after the men were almost involved in an accident.
According to Sinequan, he was not sure if he shot his “attacker” but was in an “serious emotional state”.
He handed himself over to police two weeks later.
Sinequan’s lawyer said he would plead guilty.
Outside court yesterday, Sinequan said he handed himself over to the police because his conscience was bugging him.
