Many South Africans welcome TopTV porn

TopTV has said their planned bouquet of pornographic channels has been welcomed by a “vast majority of South Africans”.

In a press statement issued by the struggling pay-TV operator on Thursday, TopTV’s acting CEO Eddie Mbalo said: “We believe that South Africans are mature enough to take personal responsibility for their television viewing habits.”

“We believe people are capable of choosing for themselves what they would like to view in the privacy of their homes, and that the vast majority of South Africans either welcome the prospect of adult television, or acknowledge the right of others to watch adult TV, even if they themselves are not particularly interested in this content.”

‘Double layer pin’

The struggling TopTV, currently under business rescue under the Companies Act, has launched a second attempt to introduce a trio of titillating channels as a separate bouquet which the pay-TV operator believes will bring in the money.

TopTV wants to launch three TV channels, Playboy TV, Desire TV and Private Spice as soon as possible, with a rating of R18.

“All the material will be blocked with a double layered PIN,” said TopTV in its new application.

TopTV wants to run the porn channels for 24 hours a day in South Africa, although broadcasting regulations don’t currently permit that.

The South African public and all interested parties can comment on TopTV’s porn channel plans with correspondence to be posted to:
