A pensioner from the Zulu royal family has survived four attempted rapes by boys young enough to be her grandchildren in Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal.
Ntombiyezwi Zulu (60) has survived four rape attempts in the past five months, Saturday Star reported.
She is a former professional runner who has finished the Comrades Marathon nine times.
Zulu said she has had to ask one of her sons, Sthandwa, to accompany her during her usual 4am training session.
She is a relative of King Goodwill Zwelithini and has been running early in the morning for the past 32 years.
“There’ve been several times where I’ve been mugged ... but I was not harmed,” she told the newspaper.
Zulu said two boys who were carrying guns attacked her and dragged her under a bridge in January.
One of the boys told her that he was attracted to her because of her fitness. She managed to escape.
In another incident, Zulu said she was assaulted for almost an hour by a man who had throttled her when she tried to fight back.
She managed to run to the police station.
A few weeks before this, Zulu was rescued by a security guard from an attacker.
In another attack, Zulu was hit on the head with a blunt object but she was saved by a motorist.
