Police have arrested three men in Mangaung after a 21-year-old pregnant woman was raped during a robbery in Estoir, Bloemfontein, a spokesperson has said.
Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the arrests came after information was received by the specialist unit the Hawks of the whereabouts of one of the men in Mangaung.
This man’s arrest led the Hawks to a second man at Central Park in Bloemfontein and to the main suspect in the case, who allegedly raped the woman.
Police are still looking for a fourth man.
It was alleged that the men entered the woman’s house on Friday, October 22, at about 4am and sprayed a gas in the bedroom where she, her husband (23) and son (3) were sleeping.
After the break-in the victims were taken in separate vehicles to unknown places in Mangaung, where the robbers stopped apparently to offload their loot.
Mophiring said it seems one of the robbers drove around with the woman for a while before he stopped in a field and raped her.
After the incident she was united with the rest of her family and their vehicles were given back.
The three men, aged 52, 24, and 27, from Mangaung, were expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges of house robbery and rape.
