Service delivery protesters threw stones at police and blocked the Uitenhage Road with burning tyres in Algoa Park outside Port Elizabeth this morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Johan Rheeder said the protest started around 6am.
“A small group of people, who are protesting for better services in their community, blocked the road with burning tyres and began throwing stones,” Rheeder said.
“The police arrived at the scene and the situation calmed. There was no shooting or any violence.”
Rheeder said the protest was one of several held in Algoa Park in the past year.
