R12.5m drug bust at Durban harbour

About 800kg of dagga worth an estimated R12.5 million was confiscated at Durban Harbour yesterday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The drugs were concealed in re-stitched charcoal bags, hidden in a container behind drums of fruit juice and car engine parts, spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said in a statement.

The container came from Gauteng and was due to be shipped to Europe.

The bust was made following a tip-off received two months ago.

Further details were not immediately available.
