Rustenburg crash kills 10

Ten people were killed last night after a head-on collision on the

N4 in Rustenburg, according to the Northwest Department of Public Safety.

The eight adults and two children died after a Honda Ballade and

Toyota Yaris collided on the Helen Joseph offramp on the N4 in Rustenburg at

9.45pm, said Northwest Public Safety spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele.

“The impact of the collision is such that the engine was thrown

about 10m away.

People were strewn all over the road,” said Kgwele.

There was only one survivor, an adult woman, who was taken to Job

Shimankana Tabane provincial hospital. She is in a critical condition.

Both lanes of the N4 are closed while rescuers continue to work on

the scene.

Kgwele has asked motorists to avoid the N4 near Rustenburg.
