Two Australian sisters have set an unofficial world record for
watching television continuously after sitting through 87 hours of uninterrupted
soccer World Cup coverage.
Football-mad Joanne (22) and Alanah Argyrou (24) sat for three and
a half days at Sydney’s Star City Casino, outlasting Dutchman Efraim van
Oeveren, who managed 86 hours.
The feat, which awaits confirmation by Guinness World Records, was
monitored by a team of officials who ensured that the sisters did not look away
from the screen for more than five seconds.
They were given one five-minute break per hour, but were allowed no
more than five cups of coffee a day. In between World Cup broadcasts, the women
watched recorded matches and football documentaries.
