Soccer nyatsi swears off stars for good

A 20-year-old Joburg student, who says she’s a serial soccer groupie, claims to have hooked up with a string of local stars – and insists she’s swearing off sportsmen for good.

She claims that Ayanda Gcaba (Orlando Pirates), Mbongeni Gumede (Orlando Pirates), Eric Mathoho (Kaizer Chiefs), Chris Matombo (Kaizer Chiefs) and Andile Jali (Bafana Bafana and Belgium’s KV Oostende) are among her exes.

City Press approached the players for comment individually and through their clubs on Friday, but none responded.

Now she’s warning other young girls about the “dangers” of dating soccer stars who, she says, wine, dine and leave their lovers.

“[Soccer players] take you to expensive restaurants, buy you expensive Champagne and give you VVIP tickets for soccer matches,” the civil engineering student said.

“But that doesn’t mean they love you.

“They’ll use you for sex and once they’re done with you, they go to the next girl.

“You’re just being exposed to the good life and fast cars.

“I can get any soccer player I want. Look at my body. Many people say I have Kim Kardashian’s bum,” the bubbly young woman laughingly said during an interview with City Press at a Joburg restaurant this week.

But then her mood turned serious.

“Dating soccer stars in the worst thing that has ever happened in my life and I don’t wish it to happen to anyone,” the woman said.

She claims that Jali was her first soccer boyfriend, when she was just 18.

“I was young and innocent, and I was madly in love,” she recalled.

But their relationship only lasted for three months, she said, partly because Jali was allegedly cheating on her.

“I decided to end the relationship. It wasn’t working,” she added.

Three months after they split up, she got involved with a player from Kaizer Chiefs.

“Once you’ve dated one soccer player, it’s hard to date just your ordinary guy,” she said.

Orlando Pirates spokesperson Mickey Modisane said: “It’s a private matter as it’s an off-the-field incident and as a club we can’t comment.”

Vina Maphosa, Kaizer Chiefs’ communications manager, said his contract with the team didn’t allow him to comment on players’ private lives.

“The players are currently on camp and they are not available for comment. So you may run the story without them,” he said.

The young woman is now in a relationship with an “ordinary” man who’s not in the public eye.

“I’m happy where I am right now. I have learnt my lessons. I’m not going back,” she concluded.
