The 26-year-old Khayelitsha man taken in for questioning today in connection with the hijacking of a British couple at the weekend has been formally charged.
“He is facing charges of hijacking and murder, and is scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court tomorrow,” Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said today.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on Monday on 28-year-old Anni Dewani, who died in Saturday night’s hijacking in Gugulethu, he said.
Her body was released to her family on Tuesday night.
The results of the post-mortem report would only be released once presented as evidence in a court of law.
The investigation and search for one other suspect was continuing, Van Wyk said.
