A tavern owner was shot and wounded before he killed one of four men who allegedly attacked him at his home in Chris Hani Village near KwaMhlanga last night, Mpumalanga police said.
“The man arrived at his home in his black Nissan Hardbody bakkie around 9pm and got out of the vehicle to open the gate,” Captain Isaac Tjege said.
“Four men suddenly emerged from a dark corner inside his yard and accosted him. One of the thugs drew a gun and fired shots at the man. But the businessman quickly scurried for cover, pulled out his licensed gun and returned fire.”
He hit the robber shooting at him twice in the chest. The boy, in his mid-teens, died on the scene. His three accomplices ran away without taking anything.
Neighbours heard the shots and called the police. The 45-year-old was taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest and leg. He was in a stable condition.
“The police found 10 spent cartridges on the scene. The motive for the attack is suspected to be a robbery.”
The businessman was coming from his tavern, in the nearby Tweefontein village. No arrests had been made.
