A 15-year-old girl gave birth to conjoined twins at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg.
The Star reported that the babies, joined at the chest and abdomen, were born on Monday.
The babies were currently in the hospital’s high-care neonatal ward.
Hospital CEO Johanna More said the case was referred to them from Klerksdorp because of the mother’s age, according to the report.
Gauteng’s MEC for health and social development, Ntombi Mekgwe, would hold a press conference tomorrow, where doctors involved in the case would explain the condition of the children.
Only one birth in every 2.5 million result in conjoined twins and most of these children die within the first 24 hours.
