Three people were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder after they allegedly planned to kill the municipal manager of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati municipality in Vryburg.
Colonel Junior Metsi said two municipality employees, including a project director, were suspended by the municipality manager after he allegedly uncovered irregularities regarding the awarding of tenders.
“The two, with another member of the public who was allegedly involved in the tender corruption, allegedly hired hitmen to kill the manager,” said Metsi.
“They first agreed on R100 000 as payment with the hitmen and later changed it to R75 000.”
Metsi said the hitmen were not happy with the changing of the amount and decided to alert the police.
The three were arrested on Friday following lengthy investigations by the police.
They are expected to appear at the Vryburg Magistrates Court on Monday.
