Thumbs up for African Youth Champs schedule

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the fixtures and venues for the Orange African Youth Championship which gets under way on Sunday.

There were fears that the tournament would not continue after South Africa was handed the hosting rights only last month, replacing strife-torn Libya.

But it is all systems go following the confirmation of venues and kick-off times by the continental football governing body yesterday.

CAF has named the Dobsonville and Milpark (Bidvest) Stadiums as the match venues for the April 17 to May 1 competition, which features eight under-20 nations.

The South African under-20 side, Amajita, will play all their games at the Dobsonville Stadium while the Bidvest Stadium will host two group matches – Mali vs Lesotho on April 23 and the Nigeria vs Gambia tie on April 24.

Dobsonville will also host the semifinals on April 28 and the final on May 1.

Amajita will bring the curtains up against Mali in a 12pm kick-off in Dobsonville while Egypt will take on Lesotho in another Group A encounter in the evening.

The semifinalists will earn an automatic berth at the Fifa under-20 World Cup, which runs from July 29 to August 20 in Colombia.
