Tips: Don’t become a drug mule

» Pack your own luggage.

» Ensure that all zips and fasteners are in a good working condition and that bags are locked.

» Keep your hand luggage with you at all times.

» Don’t accept packaged items from strangers or packages with contents unknown to you.

» Don’t agree to do a favour for a stranger.

» When approached by a drug peddler to transport drugs, report the matter to the police without delay.

» If offered a job abroad, work through the relevant government departments and legitimate organisations, and consult with the embassy of the country here and the South African embassy in the country of destination.

» Familiarise yourself with the law.
