Villagers in the Engcobo area of Transkei have hijacked a hospital’s water supply, the province’s health department said today.
Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said All Saints Hospital, in a semi-rural area outside Engcobo, ran out of water more than a week ago.
The department had immediately begun trucking in water, and had also appointed a contractor to find out what the problem was.
The contractor had discovered that numbers of villagers had illegally connected to the hospital’s pipeline.
“We have instructed the contractor to disconnect them, but we are also going to report the matter to the police,” Kupelo said.?
