Wet New Year expected for most of SA

Wet weather is expected in most parts of the country as 2010 draws to an end, the SA Weather Service said today.

“From Friday onwards wet weather is expected in most parts of the country, with thunderstorms expected in the Eastern Cape,” weather forecaster Arno Dyason said.

Heavy rains are also expected in the south-eastern parts of the country, including the Free State, southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho and the Eastern Cape.

From Friday onwards there is a 60% chance of rain in Gauteng, North West, the Highveld areas in Mpumalanga and the northern parts of the country.

A warning of the possibility of wild fires in the Western Cape was also issued today.
