Zuma’s NPA man charged

Today City Press reveals that the man tipped to lead the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has been formally charged with misconduct by the Magistrate’s Commission.

Magistrate Stanley Gumede is understood to be President Jacob Zuma’s first choice to lead the NPA.

We further report how a KwaZulu-Natal legal lobby pushed for the commission to charge Gumede or drop the case.

After a week in which the NPA’s credibility was seriously challenged, former NPA boss Vusi Pikoli told City Press it was time for a “strongly independent” leader.
