Covid-19 figures after the Easter weekend will give an indication of whether citizens were more responsible and adhered to regulations, or whether we should brace for a third wave of the pandemic, writes Ralph Mathekga.

The long-awaited Easter long weekend has passed, and a picture will soon begin to emerge of whether South Africans can be trusted with adhering to measures to protect themselves against the coronavirus.

South Africa was under more relaxed lockdown regulations during the Easter weekend, with President Cyril Ramaphosa giving time for citizens to stock up on alcohol before government's regulations banning the sale of alcohol for off-site consumption kicked in. Government is aware of the irritations caused by strict regulations, hence it decided to avoid clamping down on social activities during the Easter weekend.
