The teams of the Teto Secondary School in Thabong, Welkom, and the Wilgerivier High School in Frankfort, will represent the Free State at this year’s national final of the DStv Schools Netball Challenge.
These matches are scheduled to be played from 23 to 26 September in Gauteng. The host venue is yet to be announced.
The two schools qualified after winning in their respective categories of the competition, Batho and Ubuntu.
The Ubuntu stream focuses on schools in rural areas, while the Batho stream is for schools in urban areas.
The Free State is one of four provinces that has produced finalists thus far. The others are the Northern Cape, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal.
The five remaining provinces’ finalists will be decided during matches taking place on Friday (10/09) and Saturday. The winners of Gauteng, the North West, the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape will also qualify for the nationals.
The competition, which resumed on 1 August after the Covid-19 school sports suspension was lifted, is aimed at fast-tracking the development of young talent and providing a platform for future stars to shine and get noticed by sporting scouts.
