Khoi Revolution, ANC form coalition in Springbok

Cape Town - The African National Congress and the newly formed Khoisan Revolution party have formed a coalition to run Springbok municipality in the Northern Cape.

Newly elected mayor and ANC elections team co-ordinator Lorenzo Faber said they were looking forward to working with the party.

"There are many challenges but we are going to start with fixing the potholes and the dead street lights," said Faber.

Comment was not immediately available from the Khoisan Revolution, but a Facebook post under the name Khoisan Revolution Media said the Springbok breakthrough meant the party would have its first ever Khoisan councillor and speaker.

"Thanks to a firm and collective leadership we are gaining ground," the party said.

It received 5.19% of the votes in the Nama-Khoi municipality, and one seat.

Building support

The ANC received 46.71% so it had to find a partner to help it take power in the municipality.

The DA received 41.71%, the Congress of the People 3.76%, and the Economic Freedom Fighters 1.77%.

Earlier this year, the fledgling party said it was not going for a win in the August 3 election, but would concentrate on building support.

They wanted to get some councillors in to municipalities to get their issues on the table.

Khoisan Revolution was formed in January and registered with the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) with a focus on issues affecting the Khoisan, San and Griekwas.

The party's main struggle is for land and wants the needs of its constituency to be addressed in current land policies.

According to a previous report, since 1994, the IEC had registered more than 35 parties with links to the Khoisan.
