Just like the new atheism movement, atheism plus is founded upon the same old regurgitated refuted atheist arguments we've all heard thousands of times ever since they were proposed in the French Revolution by atheist philosophers, as well as possessing the same irrational hatred towards religion. So what makes it different from the regular online new atheist movement when its followers spill the same rabid nonsense about religion? Well those who would label themselves as being part of atheism plus say they are also feminists and a huge part of the movement is dedicated to promoting feminist ideals as well.
The movement started back in 2012 when a woman named Jennifer McCreight participated in a protest known as "boobquake" which was raised in reply to Kazem Seddiqi's claim that women dressing in revealing clothing causes earthquakes. Jennifer rose to online fame during this protest, an already avowed atheist, she soon begun promoting her atheism and feminism online. The comments she received however from the rest of the atheist community were mostly sexist remarks and invitations to sex, bringing to media attention the long known fact that most of those that are part of the new atheist movement are mostly men and misogynistic sexist men at that, it should be no surprise also that many of atheism's public famous speakers and promoters are also sexist and have made sexist remarks about women in the past, prime examples being atheists Sam Harris, Penn Jillette, Christopher Hitchens (now deceased) and Richard Dawkins.
Elevatorgate also helped atheism plus gather more support when an atheist woman named Rebecca Watson was sexually harassed at one of Richard's atheist conventions, long after the talk, when an atheist man from the group followed her into the hotel's elevator at 4AM and propositioned her. She also complained about the long running issues of sexism within the atheist movement. This prompted Dawkins to downplay her experiences by writing an open letter to an imaginary Muslim woman, highlighting the persecution women face in Islamic countries as if to say the sexism and discrimination women face in the west doesn't matter. Of course those of common sense realized the stupidity of this comparison and Dawkins himself later retracted his earlier comments and apologised realizing his own stupidity himself stating "There should be no rivalry in victimhood, and I'm sorry I once said something similar to American women complaining of harassment, inviting them to contemplate the suffering of Muslim women by comparison." However this hasn't since stopped him from making further sexist remarks on twitter.
These events led to a huge split in the online atheist community with many prominent online YouTube male atheists and bloggers to reveal their misogyny by harassing the female atheists part of atheism plus which they viewed as subverting from atheism's crusade of irrational hatred towards religion to indoctrinate people with feminism. Indeed the most popular definition of atheism plus on Urban Dictionary (gathering over 12,000 upvotes) says this "Their goal is to subvert atheism and with the religion of feminist indoctrination and bitch about non existent misogyny" which only further shows that many members of the atheist community do not understand how women can be discriminated against in the west and indeed, don't even believe they are.
This split and arguing continues today. With many self-professed "intellectual atheists" revealing their rejection of sexism, the discrimination of women in the west and just genuinely revealing that they live in delusional worlds. Their have also been many cases of feminist atheists having rape threats sent to them and threats of violence against them. For us theists, it also revealed what we have said about the atheist movement for a long time and we relished in seeing the conflict for it also revealed an irony: Many atheists have said that religion divides people and yet their own movement was causing a huge division and conflict. The atheism movement single handily destroyed itself by refuting one of its own major arguments.
These events and this split also tells us that we shouldn't take the atheist community seriously when they can't even agree on what they're about.
Unfortunately many social media atheists on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit and other sites still continue with their online crusades of ranting against religions with the same old arguments not aware that they're simply wasting their lives and since atheism plus, are now mostly regarded as laughing stocks.
