The story: Slain Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear lived his life on a hitlist and, two weeks before he was murdered, police top brass had been warned there was another plot afoot to eliminate him.

What we know: The chilling warning went unheeded and, with a protection detail Kinnear once enjoyed never redeployed, the veteran cop died alone and unguarded.

The latest: Now his widow, Nicolette, is steadfast that the failure of police management will not be consigned to oblivion.
