The story: The ANC's national executive committee (NEC) meeting got off to a slow start on Sunday evening because President Cyril Ramaphosa was still busy attending to African Union (AU) matters.

What happened: The virtual meeting, which began just after 18:00, heard that Ramaphosa was still tied up in AU matters as host of the extraordinary African Union summit on silencing the guns, organised by South Africa in Ramaphosa's year as AU chairperson.

Expected: The NEC meeting was expected to debate the contentious issue of the party's resolution that corruption-accused leaders should step aside.
