Crime Intelligence: Night of the long knives sees Peter Jacobs fall

The night of the long knives at the police's Crime Intelligence division has seen its embattled commander, Peter Jacobs, summarily demoted and shifted out of his post by top cop Khehla Sitole.

The putsch from Sitole came in the form of two letters: in the first, he decreed that Jacobs' suspension had been lifted - and, in the second, that he report for duty on Thursday as head of a different division within the police.
