As 2021 dawns and South Africans make resolutions to better their lives, Gauteng Premier David Makhura should make a desperate bid to fix his frosty relationship with accountability.
Over the past seven years Makhura has successfully branded himself as a corruption-free, accountable man of the people. Partly, he achieved this by employing a band of experienced communicators to launder his reputation and public image. But a quick analysis of Makhura’s tenure in office shows that the premier spends a considerable amount of time talking about accountability but would take none himself.
