AN Amanzimtoti man was arrested and appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court for defeating the ends of justice.
“On 23 November, at about 3pm, the complainant reported that he was carjacked and robbed of a Porsche valued at R1.5 million,” Umkomaas SAPS PRO, Captain Sheik reported.
According to Sheik, a case of carjacking was opened and Detective Warrant Officer Z.A. Khan investigated.
“During the investigation, it came to light that the complainant made a false report. The vehicle was recovered at a flat in Doonside, in Amanzimtoti, pointed out by the complainant,” Sheik said.
Subsequently, a case of defeating the ends of justice was opened at Umkomaas SAPS.
“Mr Ngwazi was arrested on 25 November and has appeared in Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court, where the case has been remanded to 9 December,” said Sheik.
SAPS issued a serious warning to complainants to not report false cases as they can be charged criminally.
“False reporting is a serious offence that leads to criminal conviction.”
