KZN HEALTH MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo announced recently that Mbumbulu area will finally have a hospital to serve the community. The construction of the new hospital is still in the planning stages but the MEC assures that in the near future the area will have a hospital to call their own.
MEC Dhlomo added that this hospital will ultimately bring a significant improvement to the lives of an estimated 1,4 million strong population from areas such as Adams, Mfume, Nhlazuka, Mbumbulu, Folweni and others.
Amanzimtoti residents welcomed the new hospital.
Hazel Mkhize said: “The area is in desperate need of a hospital, this is something that should have been proposed and executed years ago but better late than never.”
Michael Govender said that there are so many people in need of medical care in and around the Adams area and some can’t afford private healthcare. “This initiative will surely bring change in the area. I don’t know how they went on for so long without a hospital, they all were using the one in Scottsburg and you can imagine the influx of people there daily, the queues are ridiculously long, so this new hospital will bring a good change in the area.”
Reg Colgate said that any hospital, clinic or any type of permanent health care facility will be a benefit to the community at large.
Irene Johnson agreed with Colgate and said: “That’s great news because people don’t have to go to Prince Mshiyeni now. Just as long as the cleanliness standards are kept in the new hospital, I will be happy. Public hospitals have a tendency to not have clean premises and it is not right.”
