A 84-YEAR-OLD woman, Loraine Denyse Roberts was found dead in her home in Arbuthnot Street, Amanzimtoti on 6 January.
“The deceased lived alone and was found by family members who visited her every morning to ensure she is okay and provide meals for her for the rest of the day,” SAPS PRO Captain Charlene van der Spuy said.
“The family saw Loraine on 5 January at 8.30am and left her with everything in order. On 6 January at 9.45am, they arrived at the house and found the gate to the premises locked. However, the safety gate and front door was closed, but not locked,” said Van der Spuy.
“On entering the house they noticed that all the rooms had been ransacked and discovered the body of the deceased in one of the bedrooms on the floor on her side, next to the bed,” she added.
Paramedics were called to the scene and the victim was declared dead on arrival.
“Upon further investigation it was found that the geyser inside the bathroom was broken and the element and copper pipes removed. Water was gushing out on the outside of the house.
There were no signs of forced entry. It is unclear at this stage whether personal property was taken,” said Van der Spuy stated.
A case of murder is being investigated.
