Siphosethu Bawuti from Nomzamo in Strand is tipped to become like retired Banyana Banyana star Portia Modise.
Modise has scored more than 100 goals in her international career.
Siphosethu,12, is so versatile that she has a dislike for netball with a passion.
She is so much into soccer - her first love- that she even trains with boys from her neighbourhood.
Her dribbling skills are amazing and her ball control prowess is best by far compared to girls her age.
“I prefer playing soccer ... I grew up watching my father play soccer and my grandfather would allow me to watch soccer games on television late into the night.”
Her father, Jerry Bobi says she has always somewhat of a soccer lover, unlike other girls who preferred netball.
“At school, they placed her in a netball team due to her height. She came back and said she does not want to play ball with her hands but kick it with her feet.”
“I had to listen to her wishes and could see she loved the game and because she knew the names of the players first hand,”
Bobi even brought her soccer boots. “A friend said I could join their team ... I have played in tournaments and I would be the only girl playing. I don’t like that as I want other girls to play soccer,” she said.
There is no soccer team for girls in Strand, forcing her to play with boys.
Jerry said: “Playing with boys gives her an advantage as she will be stronger and be able to play better. However, I want her to play in a league for girls which is why I appeal to parents of other young girls to help found a team.”
Avela Samba,12, a friend who also plays with her, said he hopes Siphosethu finds a team.
“Playing with us is good for her but she needs a team and league to play in so that she can also be known and selected for Banyana Banyana”.
Siphosethu said her favourite player is Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
