Gugulethu’s DJ Kaunda is determined to use his partying ways for a greater good.
Kaunda Mapipa is a decks man who has started an initiative called Gone Rogue where he hosts parties to raise funds for the less fortunate.
“I started the initiative with the idea of using it to assist those who are needy and I chose to buy school uniforms for learners.
I want this to be motivation for them to stay in school and know that without school you limit your chances of success,” he said.
Last year, he kicked off with a party at the Sky Lounge in Gugs, to prove his point.
He helped raise about R5000.00 for school uniforms.
“No child should ever feel less equal to others as a result of financial want. This is why this has to be an ongoing project to make sure that we reach as many children as we can,” said Kaunda.
Kaunda is continuing with the project with the second instalment of the Gone Rogue parties taking place on 30 January at the Sky Lounge again.
The cover charge is R80 and the dimunitive Dj will be supported by his friends in the industry such as Dj Loyd, Thibo Tazz, Justeez, Diloxclusiv on the line up.
He said he was very happy to receive such a huge support from his fellow peers.
“I’d like to urge them to also do their bit by donating what they can so that they can improve the lives of children coming from disadvantage backgrounds.
The project is a lifestyle experience as it allows the community to not just party but learn about ways to help the needy,” he said.
Kaunda has been in the music industry for more than ten years and has established himself as one of the finest DJs in the province.
He attributes his highlights as landing a gig as a mix DJ at Good Hope FM and becoming an ambassador for McDonalds Street Rhythm competitions.
