“Its a hit,”- Family of slain man

The family of the Marikana businessman who was gunned down over the weekend have alleged that his death was a deliberate hit.

Thando ‘Lalas’ Dlangamandla,34, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen on Saturday evening while sitting alone at home.

Dlangamandla owned a hardware and general store.

He has been a resident in the area for the past four years.

His mother, Nosimo, said they were deeply saddened by his loss as he was supportive and kind to his parents.

She said that they believed that his death was not as a result of a robbery but an assassination as the culprits didn’t take anything from his three premises.

“After the police came to tell us of the incident, we rushed to his house but we found that he had already died.

We then decided to take all his belongings but it was getting late and we feared that maybe they will come back.

However, when we went there in the morning nothing had been taken(in the robbery) which means that they just wanted to have him dead,” said Nosimo.

She said that they were pained but they have to look at giving him a dignified send off.

She described Thando as mild-mannered individual who loved soccer and was quite good at the sport.

“He was a quite, hardworking young man who loved playing soccer. He has won many medals from a young age.

After finishing matric we, couldn’t afford to send him to university, so he started working for himself,” she said.

She said that they had tried to convince him to not stay there, to no avail.

“He told us that he needed to earn a living and that he could not leave his businesses there,” she said.

Saps spokersperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said police were still investigating the case and that no arrests have been made yet.

“A case of murder has been opened for investigation subsequent to a shooting incident that occurred on 07 April 2018 at MB street, Marikana, Philippi.

According to information, police attended the complaint at the address and upon arrival, found the deceased with gunshot wounds to his body,” she said.

Rwexana said that Thando was declared dead on the scene.
