A local community worker is calling for volunteers to join him in his fight against crime and youth development.
Anele Heli, founder of Complete Life Centre, a youth NGO established last year to positively influence youngsters and families in Samora Machel.
“With just one year in service, we have managed to mobilize hundreds of youngsters and families; there have been great stories of young boys walking away from drugs, gangsterism into leading a life with direction and great hope.
The uniqueness of this initiative is that we are Christian-based, not a religious entity. We have one motto: MakingGODproud!,” said Heli.
Having grown up in New Crossroads exposed to the societal ills such as alcohol abuse, gangsterism and crime Heli vowed to play his part by starting this initiative.
“I managed to dodge the hazardous lifestyle by admitting myself into a youth group from my local church in the late 90’s, that way he hardly had time to loiter and wander the streets.
I have been disturbed by the statistic claiming that Nyanga is the murder capital of South Africa.
Therefore I decided to take a stand and play my role in turning things around,” he said.
He said that his organisation has been receiving great support from Nyanga SAPS and will be expanding to the other areas in this year.
“We have been getting great assistance from Nyanga Police Station and we feel, as much as the police are working hard to get rid of drug supply, CLC aims to work the youngsters and their families holistically.
As we all know that should there be a supply it’s because there is a demand, we aim to show direction to the youngsters and help them acknowledge their true identity.
This year we are spreading to Nyanga, Gugulethu, Delft, Khayelitsha and close by peripherals,” he said.
He said that they are currently looking for volunteers to help steer they ship ashore.
“We are currently looking for volunteering individuals to run After-School Programs in schools at which they will oversee indigenous games, sports, etc.
Above all, we will be lending an ear and offer counselling to students.
