Langa cricket festival a great success with everyone winning

Everyone was a winner when the Langa Cricket Club (LCC) held a cricket festival there on December 27.

LCC spokesman Phumzile Malotana described the atmosohere as awesome as both young and old came came to mingle with top township best crickecting exports that included Thami, Tsolekile, Siya Simetu, Nono Pongolo, Malusi Siboto and Temba Bavuma.

The Langa festival is sponsored by Cricket South Africa (CSA), the WPCA and is supported by Kookaburra and Sportsman’s Warehouse and it lured about 1800 people.

“We had cricket clinics, while players like Simetu, Siboto, Tsolekile and Bavuma hosted four participating teams.

“The festival is an annual event on the CSA- and WPCA-calendar. The purpose of the festival is to revive cricket in one of the most important hotbeds of cricket development in the Western Cape with Langa being one of eight transformation hubs in the area,””he said

Malotana said it was great seeing game veterans mingling with new kiddies.

“It was exciting because the young one learnt a great deal from current pros and veterans like Phumzile Msweli and others,” he said.

“About 150 kids participated in the clinics, cricketing authorities and players also mingled with the community ,” he said.
