Some resident in Langa claim that they have been without water since August despite water restrictions having been lifted.
The affected areas are: Zones 18, 19, 20, and 23.
Mlandeli Honono said in June and July this year, when water restrictions were high, they would only get water from their taps in the mornings.
“We understood during the strict water restriction that we would only get water in the morning,” he said.
However, since August, they have been without water at all, which made everyday life difficult for them.
He said they have reported the matter to the relevant authority, but nothing has been done.
Another, Nolizwi Hlathini said they now have to walk to the taxi rank in order for them to get water or ask those that do have water to help them.
“It is very hard now because we must walk long distances with heavy buckets to get water and other people refuse to help us,” she said.
She said it’s even worse when they have to relieve themselves because every time they want to use the toilet they must first fetch water.
Hlathini said they could not even drink water this past weekend to cool themselves down during the hot weather conditions.
City spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo said water flow into Langa is continually monitored. There have been no long-term supply disruptions to the area related to either the City’s pressure management programme or infrastructure faults over the past two months.
He said they are still investigating this case, but the complaint is most likely linked to plumbing leaks on private property that is causing the property’s water allocation for the day (normally 350l) to go to waste before they can use such.
“Residents are responsible for ensuring that plumbing is in working order.”
