Peace Lovers FC coach Simnikiwe Sigqubude said they are ready for the beginning of this season after his team beat Marikana United 3-0 in a friendly game on Saturday 24 April. The match was held at Vuyiseka Sport Complex on Saturday 24 April.

The Philippi- East Local Football Association is expected to start on the second weekend of May.

The Marcus Garvey based team finished the first stanza leading by 2 goals to nil. “We out played them in all departments. We managed to control the game from the first whistle. My players played according to the instructions,” said Sigqubude. However, he said he needs to sharpen his striking force. “We should have buried them in the first half. Our strikers missed clear chances,” he said adding that most of his strikers were converted from the midfield.

United coach Xolela Qonongo described the state of his team as devastating. “We tried to play but it seems luck was not on our side. There were instances where we controlled the game but our front line disappoints us,” said Qonongo. He said they lost almost all the friendly games that they played in preparation for the start of the new season. “When we were playing in the Easter Tournament we lost all our three games that we played in group stages. I think we need to focus more on shooting because our players are able to keep the ball around but they don’t shoot,” he stated.

However he urged Marikana community to rally behind the boys during this difficult time.
