MISS Independent has the confidence to be independent and is not vulnerable to abuse.
This is how Precious Madubela (17), the founder of modelling agency Journey Before Success describes the upcoming Miss Independent 2017 event on 11 February.
Precious, from Khayelitsha, says her love of modelling started when she was only 12 years old.
But Precious is not just a pretty face.
She has a dream and she started a modelling agency last year because she wants to teach kasi girls how to carry themselves in a confident manner.
Her agency has over 100 models aged between 16 and 21 on its books.
“Women have to be independent and stand on their own.
We mentor young people and teach them how to build confidence.
“My dream is to see young kasi girls grow into confident adults who know their worth.
“As an agency it’s not only about entertaining people on stage but is also meant to address issues like teenage pregnancy awareness,” she said.
Precious and her friend Zimkitha Galela, the founder of Miss Dream Fighter, have been working tirelessly to raise funds for the Miss Independent event.
