Tumelo Matsiong, fondly known as a peoples person, a social butterfly, a drama queen and a people’s moffie, is no more.

Although the circumstances surrounding his death are not clear, it was claimed that he had taken a lethal dose of Jeyes Fluid after a family argument in his Gugulethu home last week.

News that Matsiong has passed on spread like wild fire on social nertworks, including on Facebook, as shocked friends querried his controversial demise.

Zingi Vokozela said, “Intliziyo yam ilihlwili, ndikhathazeke ndiyinyama, Yini Matsiong! Yhini Tumie!

Another distraught friend, Zolile Mkhungi said: “Artful soul indeed, crazy as ever, ekuthanda ukujayiva and ukuhleka and pass jokes, I will always remember the good times we had in high school.

Another shocked friend, Penelope Mazibula Nazo, said she was feeling angry and hurt and charged that, “its only God who knows what happen...”, seemingly in shock.

According to a source close to the family, “Itu”-as he was affectionately called-was allegedly “assaulted and bitten to a pulp”.

However, Notara Kok, a family member, said her family was very disturbed and hurt by the rumours doing the rounds that Itu died after a severe beating by the family.

“This is the child I raised and sent to the circumcision school. I was the one who made everything possible for him. I loved him dearly... how can I kill him. I was a mother to him. These unfounded rumours are disturbing and hurting the family deeply. Regarding Itu’s demise, she said: “Tumie came on Sunday and we asked him about the jacket that was stolen at our backyard, because he is the one who usually brought unsavoury elements into the yard. He became aggressive and swore at my(other) sister.

“We were called in and told that he had drawn a knife...we disciplined him like any other child. Kok added that as much as Tumie was seemingly a happy fellow and was admired by all, he also had an aggressive streak to his side too. “After the ordeal, he went out, only for us to be informed that he had been attacked in Mxenge village and was severely beaten amid allegations of theft of washing from a line.” Kok said the police told them so. “He was taken from there and sent to hospital. We suspect he escaped because he had a drip on him. When we cautioned him to go back to hospital he refused. Kok added that on close inspection, they were shocked to discover that Itu had imbibed Jeyes Fluid, a sanitary agent. Itu’s funeral service was held at his home last Saturday
