Internationally acclaimed Scottish artist Eugenia Chapman Campbell who painted the potrait of USA basketball superstar Steph Curry has donated it to African Grassroot Hoops (AGH).
An excited AGH coach Vincent Ntunja said the painting will be auctioned to raise funds for township basketball.
“We hope the painting will be autographed by the NBA champion Steph Curry and be used to raise funds for the the upcoming June 16/17 Youth Month games which will be hosted at Cape Town International Convention Centre,” said Ntunja.
He said monies raised would enable about 1000 young players from underpriviled areas to attend the event.
“Our aim is to inspire them and open their minds to a brighter future and provide opportunities. Youth Day is celebrated annually on June 16 to commemorate the uprising of 1976. This is a significant day in the South Africa calendar, therefore we wish to honour fallen heroes through participation in the game of basketball. We would like this event to be an inspiration to all youngsters around Cape Town and surrounding areas,” he added.
“Every sold VIP ticket automatically qualifies 20 children to the event,” he said.
