Something big is brewing in one of the oldest townships in the Western cape.
Gugulethu Kasie is turning 60 years this year, and there are big plans to mark this milestone in our history.
I’m not as yet going to reveal the planned events for the year, but being part of the local organizing committee, I can tell you that there is something for everyone to be involved in and share in the celebrations.
These celebrations are spread throughout the year.
All that I can ask of you is to watch out and be involved and not be a spectator to the unfolding events.
That ignorance is always bliss always applies in situations like this, so don’t be left out.
Lets have faith in each other to pull this through.
The programme kicked off last Thursday with a massive mass prayer meeting at the Gugulethu Sport Complex.
The purpose of this meeting was to connect with the Lord Almighty and pray for all the social ills that our township is facing and experiencing.
This day reminded me of the old days when all denominations used to use the Word to pray for the brutal suppression and oppression that our people were experiencing or endured under the Apartheid regime.
It was such a great healing and reviving spirit listening to prayers from people of God.
To me this marked the turning point in our history and brought us back to our roots; that we can’t start anything without kneeling and asking for some blessings from up above.
When the idea was first mooted in our preparative meetings, I didn’t have faith as people of Gugs never support anything done locally.
Today i say, wow! what a turn out.
I’m not sure though if they came out to see umama Ka ma Asi but all the same the turn out was phenomenal.
I so hope and wish the prayers would yield fruitful results and bring about positive changes in our society.
So many things have happened and some we are living under as if they are part of our daily existence.
To me the day marked something very remarkable in that through prayer all our troubles and suffering needs to be escalated to the Man above and He will fix them.
I hope and pray that all the prayers would be answered as time goes by and we see changes taking shape in our society.
We are lamenting not only as Gugs people but as a whole country about all the social ills that have engulfed us.
We humbly pray that You bring Your mighty power and rescue us from all these stumbling blocks. Deliver us as a nation, so that we can lead and live a positive life once again. We come before you asking for forgiveness in anything that we may have sinned. Allow us as we enter 2018 to have a positive outlook and as we do the celebrations understand that You are with us. We know You hear our prayers as we broken as a nation. Lastly, I would humbly ask that we continue to pray for our people and that we make this celebrations bring out the best in us as a nation. Pray for the organisers of the celebrations to have strength as the task at hand is massive.
