Two men have been arrested for one of the most troubling crimes in the Nyanga areas; house breaking and armed robbery.
According to the police, the first suspect was arrested after police pounced on him at a filing station on Tuesday.
“Members attached to the Nyanga Crime Prevention Group busted a suspect at the local garage, driving a Toyota Avanza vehicle. The man fitted the description given to police by a complainant whose house was robbed on Monday,” said police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.
He was one of three suspect.
“The Avanza was confiscated. Further investigation led to the arrest of a second suspect in the early hours of Wednesday in Zwelitsha, Nyanga,” said Sitshitshi.
The two, aged 23 and 26, appeared on Wednesday at the Athlone Magistrate Court on house robbery charges, according tob Sitshitshi.
. Police are also seeking information after the body of a 40-year-old woman and her lover were found murdered in Sweet Home Farms over the weekend.
Her boyfriend and an accomplice are sought by the police.
“A case of double murder is being investigated after bodies of a couple were found brutally murdered inside their shack in Sweet Home Farms in Philippi.
Members of the community assaulted a man they claim to be the suspect and had to be rushed to hospital due to injuries he sustained,” said Sitshitshi.
She said that the residents claimed that the man had been heard saying repeatedly rthat he will kill the couple.
“They further claim he arrived at to a certain house on Sunday morning with his clothes drenched in blood spatters and when he was questioned, said he had been in a fight.
Later the community members discovered the gruesome killing,” explained Sitshitshi.
Police believed that the suspect was not acting alone.
