Sports Against Crime South Africa (Sacsa), in partnership with Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, sponsored new crime-stop wristbands with emergency numbers to children at various schools, including Rusthof Primary School.

The bands are imprinted with the crime-stop number 08600 10111 for children to call to report a missing person or crimes. Sacsa president Vincent Daniels said he collaborated with local police and sponsors to tackle high crime rates in the Western Cape.

“We also plan to host a crime awareness sports day at Westcott Primary School’s [in Diep River] sports field on Saturday 17 August to make children aware of the routes they can follow to report crime,” Daniels said.

He added that a sports day would also be held at Rusthof Primary in Strand on 26 October, which will include several sport codes and be supported by various companies.

“A child in sports is a child out of court,” said Daniels.
