Moments after Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed away the nation stood still and pondered the sad moment. Tributes flowed incessantly like The Nile feeds the majestic rivers of Sudan, Uganda, and Egypt. Zaire, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzanian, and Burundi and all other tributaries until it reaches Lake Victoria.
When she passed on, women across the nation heeded the call to wear doeks, scarves and berets in honor and respect of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. City Vision took to the streets to capture the moments of the “doek”, as the pictures on this page give testimony to that honour by the nation. We salute the mother-of-the-nation, Zanyiwe Winifred Madikizela-Mandela. With the nation in mourning, we hope though that she will be remembered for her contributions to the Struggle for emancipation than a fashion icon.HAMBA KAHLE MKHONTO!
