TWO INJURED IN MOTOR BIKE CRASH: TONGAAT

Two people were injured following a motor bike accident in Ghandhi’s Hill, Tongaat.

At approximately 9.56pm on Thursday a member of Reaction Unit South Africa was on patrol in the area when he came across the scene. It was established that the Salt Rock resident was riding tandem with a second person when he attempted to overtake a horse and trailer. The Suzuki Hayabusa then knocked into the pavement resulting in both individuals falling off. The bike slid several metres away from the point of impact.

Paramedics stabilised both the injured on scene before transporting them to hospital.

BREAK-IN SUSPECT ARRESTED: VERULAM

A 20-year-old house breaking suspect was arrested on Garden Street in Grange, Verulam on Friday January 12.

The Rusa operations centre received a call from the home owner stating that the suspect was in the process of breaking into the home when he was scared off. The caller further stated that the suspect was dressed in dirty clothes and that he fled towards Todd Street.

Members of Rusa patrolled the area and spotted a suspect matching the description walking in the direction of the Verulam CBD. When he noticed Reaction officers approaching he fled back onto Garden Street. Rusa members with assistance of a security officer from another private security company pursued and apprehended the suspect.

During an interview the suspect confirmed that he had entered the property with the intention of breaking into the home. He further confirmed that he is a heroin addict and funded his addiction through theft and house break-in. The suspect is believed to be responsible for several house break-ins and thefts that have occurred in Grange over the past few weeks.

48-YEAR-OLD WOMAN ASSAULTED DURING ROBBERY: VERULAM -

A 48-year-old woman was assaulted by armed suspects during a house robbery on Robin Street in Dawncrest, Verulam on Friday January 12.

At approximately 3.12pm the Rusa operations centre received a call from a member of public reporting an armed robbery in progress at her neighbour’s home. Members of Rusa and officers from Verulam SAPS responded. Upon arrival it was established that seven armed suspects entered the home and held up an Ethiopian national who is eight months pregnant, her seven-year-old daughter, five-year-old son and their 48-year-old domestic worker. The suspects demanded cash and assaulted the domestic worker with a firearm. All the suspects wore balaclavas and gloves.

The armed men ransacked the home and stole and an undisclosed amount of cash and two cellphones. Several residents in the area witnessed all seven suspects squeezing into a red VW Golf 1.

Reaction and SAPS officers conducted and extensive search for the suspects however no arrests were made.

TWO INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH: PARKGATE

Two people were injured after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed down an embankment in B Section, Parkgate on Saturday January 13.

Members of Rusa were called out to the scene by the public requesting assistance for the injured men. Upon arrival a Mercedes Benz A200 was found down an embankment. The driver and passenger suffered moderate injuries in the accident. They were treated on scene by paramedics before being transported to hospital.

It is alleged that the vehicle was travelling in the direction of Ipigogo Place when the driver failed to negotiate a bend. The vehicle then crashed down an embankment and stopped metres away from a house. The occupants of the house were not injured.

THEFT SUSPECT APPREHENDED: VERULAM

At approximately 2.07am on January 15 members of Rusa were called out to Delta Road in Missionlands, Verulam after receiving a call from a member of public reporting a theft at their residence.

Upon arrival the victim informed Reaction Officers that a lone suspect had entered the property and stolen their clothes from the washing line.

The suspect fled with the stolen goods after realising he had been spotted by the homeowner. A description of the suspect was provided to officers who went in search and apprehended the suspect in Spring Place. The clothing was not in his possession and during an interview he confirmed he had hidden the stolen goods in a nearby bush. Reaction officers went to the bush and recovered the stolen clothing.

The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to authorities for further investigation.
