SKISA Proteas Riasha Singh, Theo Pillay, Byron Mothilall and Shriya Misra dominated the recent USSA national all styles universities championships at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria recently.

Top ranked KSA fighter Singh blew her opposition away to be crowned outstanding fighter of the day at the prestigious event.

Protea captain and seasoned tournament fighter Pillay demolished his opponent in the finals to be crowned USSA WKF champion 2017.
Mothilall and Misra made podium finishes at the exciting annual USSA event winning silver and bronze medals respectively.

All the four medalists who regularly practice their karate at the Tongaat Sports Centre were selected for the current USSA squad in line for the final team announcement for the world universities championships scheduled for 2019 in Japan.

Protea head coach Brando Pillay, who mentors the four karate champions, was full of praise for his prodigies.

“I am proud of these four fighters who never fail to attend my coaching workshops and their hard work has paid dividends. Moreover, I believe that their performance augurs well for the world event in Japan.”
